  • It is well known that armor is used for protection. However, despite its usefulness on the battlefield, it has its drawbacks: it's heavy and very uncomfortable. Nevertheless, in a war where everyone is armed with swords, it would seem absurd not to wear it.

I can't recall exactly when I decided it was time to don my armor, one that was both protective and heavy. I probably started doing so in my teenage years. It was then that I understood why small dogs bark more than big ones: their appearance leaves them no other choice to earn respect.

    That's what I did.

One day, after school, a girl from my class decided to slam me against a car in the parking lot and started hitting me. A typical circle formed, with everyone watching, shouting, and enjoying the fight, but no one intervening. She was pulling my hair and scratching me, and I wasn’t reacting. Suddenly, I realized I wasn't defending myself. I felt stupid and thought that if she was pulling my hair and scratching me, she wouldn't see a kick and a punch coming... so that's what I did. Suddenly, she stepped back, eyes full of rage, and walked away crying. I realized that if she had started hitting me, it was because she believed she could do so without any consequences.

I encountered this situation many times throughout my life. Like that time on the bus when a stranger touched me inappropriately, and it took me five stops to slap him. Or when I was new at a school and the teacher asked me to write the names of classmates who were talking on the blackboard. When she saw I hadn't written any names, she got angry and asked why. I replied, "because I'm new and I don't know their names yet." Or when I moved to Madrid and a group of fascist boys tried to bully me for being Catalan. It took me a month to subtly get back at them. Or when a woman robbed me on the street, and an hour later, I went back to confront her. Or when my art teacher told me I should study veterinary medicine because I liked drawing animals, and I told him I wasn't sure which of the two careers would be a bigger waste of time. Also, when I started giving photography lectures in my twenties and there was always someone interrupting to show off their knowledge, and I'd simply reply, "Well, thank you very much." Or when I threw a glass of water on the guy who used to knock on my door at dawn, three years after this routine started, and went to bed with a smile. Or when that ex-partner told me I could "keep" the €20 left in our joint account, and I donated it to a domestic violence association using his name and ID, and then sent him the receipt.

Over the years, armors become stronger but also heavier, making it much harder to take them off when you want to.

  • To ensure the longevity and optimal preservation of your artwork, please follow these detailed care instructions:

    1. Handling

Use Gloves: Always handle the photograph with cotton gloves to avoid leaving grease or moisture marks.

Avoid Direct Contact: Do not touch the surface of the photograph directly with your hands, as natural oils from your skin can deteriorate the paper.

    2. Storage

Controlled Environment: Store the artwork in a cool, dry place, preferably at a room temperature between 10ºC and 30ºC with a relative humidity between 40% and 60%.

Individual Protection: If you have purchased more than one photograph, never stack them without protection between each one. Place tissue paper or any other soft paper between them to avoid damage.

    3. Display

Avoid Direct Sunlight: Do not expose the artwork to direct sunlight to prevent fading.

UV Protection: If you decide to display the artwork, ensure it is protected by glass or acrylic with UV protection.

Frame Materials: If framing the artwork, use acid-free materials for the frame and mat. If the frame is made of wood and comes into direct contact with the photograph, it must be natural wood and unvarnished.

    4. Adhesives and Mounting

Acid-Free Adhesives: Use acid-free adhesives to avoid yellow marks and deterioration of the support. Any other type of adhesive can cause long-term damage.

    5. Cleaning

Dust Removal: Use a soft, dry cloth to remove dust from the surface. Do not use chemical cleaners or liquids.

Avoid Scrubbing: Do not scrub the surface of the photograph, as this can cause scratches or damage to the paper and the print.

    6. Transportation

Protective Packaging: If you need to transport the artwork, ensure it is adequately protected with cushioning materials and in a sturdy box.

Avoid Extreme Conditions: Do not expose the artwork to extreme temperatures or high humidity during transportation. Handle it with care to avoid damage.

  • A pair of white cotton gloves and a personalized postcard.

The artwork is shipped flat or rolled in a tube depending on the size, well protected with bubble wrap.
